“But street racing doesn’t kill as many people as gun violence!”
and
“Last year 40k people died in traffic accidents, this is nothing”.

Oh, okay. I forgot that if something causes fewer deaths than guns it’s a perfectly fine activity.

I just wish people would get as bent out of shape for distracted driving as they do for street racing.

Using either as a comparison is an absurd excuse, but drunk driving and distracted driving kill a LOT of people every year, but because almost everyone does one of them, they have no issue with those deaths.

Oh no worries, as a motorcyclist I’m just as bent out of shape about drunk and distracted driving too. I’ve officially lost count of how many close calls I’ve had because of people looking at their phones. Couple days ago a car literally waited until I was in the intersection to pull out. It was literally one of those “had I been going 5mph faster I would have crashed” types of deals.

Call me extreme, but I’d like to see distracted driving treated like DUIs.
